Leif Shadowcloak
Leif began life without owning himself. The law once named him the property of Ketil One-Hand, but Leif earned his freedom long before his former master possessed the wisdom to grant it.
He sailed west as a free warrior and founding member of the Sea Raven crew. At Saint Bega he searched constantly for openings in the royal shield wall, firing whenever the chaos allowed. He died beside Hakon and Ulf beneath the guards’ assault.
At the funeral, Ketil placed a silver arm-ring with him. He admitted publicly that the law had been wrong and that Leif’s freedom was the first gift he had ever given him worth possessing.
“Go wherever you damn well please now, Leif Shadowcloak.”
